My best friend's name is Alicia G. I met her at a french course at the Instituto Chileno-Francés, back in 2002. I saw she was carrying a book, I think it was "Lolita" by Nabokov. I told her I had read it (which I hadn´t) and we started a conversation which ended up with both of us confessing that we hadn't read it. 'How meritorious is it to speak about things you've actually read?', she said, 'it requires no effort!' I thought that was a profound truth (about surfaces)...So was I fascinated.
Importantly for us, we both enjoyed music too. Electronic music. Therefrom we started a musical project, which did not last too long nor did it enjoy very much success. We fought a lot about who should be the leader (there was a third member, but he didn´t share those aspirations), so we decided to split up the band and not the rising friendship. Consolidated, it is, now every time I see her (once in a while, except in vacations). The literature student doesn't have too much free time now she has finally had to actually read what she talks about, and neither do I.
